Set amidst towering walls of rose-colored stone, the lost city of Petra certainly deserves its title as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. Petra represents thousands of years of history, dating all the way back to the Neolithic era. The name of the city means 'cleft in the rock' in both Greek and Arabic; the intricate buildings are literally carved into the steep cliffs that line the Arabah, a valley that runs from the Dead Sea to the Gulf of Aqaba.
