elizabethlui Form my own work in China on behalf of heritage preservation, I have concluded that there is an imperative need for an alliance between the environmental and the cultural preservationist movements. The core of the issue for both is the protection of habitat. In conservation circles we believe, it is not enough to save one building. You must save the environment that supports a way a life that is based on harmony with nature. This historical and cultural link is at the core of Chinese philosophy, so there is an opportunity to build on the natural affinity the Chinese see exists between nature and the humanly created environment. And beyond that you need, as the final question Charlie poses implies, sincere effort by the government to enact programs to protect both the environment and culture. last year
