answering the call (00:07:18)

The adhan, or Islamic call to prayer, is an integral part of the Muslim faith. Five times a day, a muezzin, or caller, recites lines that summarize Islam's spiritual ideology: that there is one God (Allah), and that Muhammad is his prophet. Often with the help of loudspeakers, the muezzin's call to prayer is projected from the minarets of a mosque to homes, Islamic schools, and into the streets of Muslim communities.
