The Sultan Ahmed Mosque, or Blue Mosque, is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Istanbul. It was designed by architect Sedefkar Mehmet Aga and built between 1609 and 1616 CE, during the Ottoman rule of Ahmed I. With both traditional Islamic and Byzantine elements, it is considered to be the last great mosque of the classical period.
