explore.org (“explore”) is a destination of trust, integrity, and learning. We want this to be a respectful and safe place for exploration and sharing.
These community guidelines will provide a practical and ethical guide for using explore as well as setting forth explore's official policies on acceptable community behavior and community rules.
We strongly encourage you to find people and organizations that share your interests and connect with them here. The more you get involved, the more you will enjoy the rewarding experience that explore can provide.
Here are some tips, suggestions, and information to keep in mind when commenting, contributing, and participating on explore:
The Internet is a wonderful place, but it can also provide people with the means to insult and harass others without taking the full responsibility for their words. A community that allows that type of behavior will quickly deteriorate, so we ask that while you are on explore.org you conduct yourself in a respectful manner. Respect the diversity of the room. Realize that other participants will vary when it comes to religion, politics, and sports, and they are allowed to courteously express these differences. Please keep in mind that commenting is a privilege not a right.
Be thoughtful in your choice of words when you comment. What you intended to say may not come through clearly to others. In reading posts, give other commenters the benefit of the doubt in what they are trying to convey.
You are of course free to disagree with what other people post on explore.org, but arguments should be avoided. You are not free to attack people simply for your amusement. In other words, if you wouldn’t say it to someone’s face, don’t say it on explore.org. Anyone who cannot follow these community guidelines may be removed immediately according to explore.org's sole and absolute discretion.
Stay on topic. Comments and contributions on explore.org social media should be relevant to the topic being discussed. Moderators reserve the right to remove off-topic posts or those that do not provide substantive purpose or relevance to explore.org and its boards.
Moderators generally will warn a commenter before permanently banning chat abusers and will delete inappropriate posts. If your presence is disruptive, mods will remove you from chat. Allow mods to deal with chat abusers. Do not engage them yourself.
Keep in mind that each comment board is designed around a particular group of animals. Though discussion of other animals is welcome, moderators will help refocus the community when necessary.
When sharing facts about the wildlife cams, please cite your sources and provide links whenever possible. We want to do our best to disseminate factual information from reliable sources especially since school groups are tuning in. Moderators can choose to remove incorrect information.
Most of our live puppy cams are hosted at a puppy raiser’s home or place of work. Please refrain from negative commentary about a non-profit host’s puppy-raising practices, criticism about the aesthetic appeal of their home or place of work, or personal attacks about the people featured on cam. We will warn and then ban anyone who violates this rule.
Please do not attempt to moderate other community members' comments. If you feel a comment is inappropriate, out of place, or not in accordance with explore.org's community guidelines, please 'flag' it, or submit your concern using the Feedback submission form.
Advertising, self-promotion, and repeated posts of the same content - even a well thought out comment - are all considered spam on explore. This is not just limited to the news stories, blog posts, photos, and videos that you post on explore; it also includes your activity in private messages and sharing.
You are 100% responsible for any activity that happens when someone is logged into your account, and all activity that occurs at that time will be associated with your username. We advise that you keep your password safe and secret.
Impersonation: Moderators can ban anyone who is impersonating a child, a moderator, another commenter, or using multiple usernames.
You may only have one account per person. Multiple accounts for the same user will be removed.
Moderators can be recognized as their posts appear with the moniker “Mod” at the end.
You may not post videos, photographs or other content that contains sexually illicit material or pornography.
You may not post media, comments or other content that incite hatred, include hate speech, or depict extreme violence.
Limit personal information, either asked or given. Age, gender, location, and other such details are unnecessary or even may be inadvisable.
