I happened to meet with the UN Secretary General's staff and they informed me that there is no concrete definition for the word terrorism. I found this fascinating considering how rampant the use of the word is.
Please help me define this word. I am curious as to people's definition.
I take it literally: "terror" = extreme fear, and "ism" = the act, state, or theory of.
So, really, to be living in fear, which most people interpret as being from an outside threat... but c'mon, there are a lot of scary things inside, too.
It could also be a belief system -- to be fully convinced that "terror" exists.
Should we report drive by shootings or when a kid goes into a school and fires away as acts of terrorism or should the media just call them rampages? Why are these not defined as terrorist acts?
